Moving: Day One

Posted in Bees on March 26th, 2012

The hives are off to NY. The day before the move I sealed up the hives with screening. The weather took a cold turn so there was no chance of over heating the hives.

The next bee yard will be accessible by car. No more hand trucks.

It is like playing Tetris.

Running out of room.

Almost loaded

Almost all loaded up.

Wax Worms

Posted in Bees on March 13th, 2012

We are moving into a new bee yard, which had been used by a beekeeper back in 2006. Several abandoned hives were taken over by mice and insects. One of the remaining supers was filled with wax moth pupal cases. All of the wax was long gone the cases remained. If a hive dies over the winter, it is best to put it in storage and not leave it in the field.
